Before coming to Kerrville in 2007, Grace lived in Austin, TX where she had a successful career in retail management. Her struggles with alcoholism and drug addiction ended that career but, by the Grace of God, she landed in The Texas Hill Country to begin her recovery journey. After completing treatment, Grace stayed in Kerrville at a sober home while embracing 12-step recovery and a new way of life. When she was 18 months sober she was asked to run what was then the largest women’s sober home in Kerrville, a 22 bed facility. In 2009, prompted by several women’s sober home closures, Grace started her own home to make sure women still had the opportunity to benefit from Kerrville’s unique recovery community. On April 17th, 2009 Grace welcomed her first resident at The North Star Sober Living for Women. There, she cultivated an atmosphere with high accountability and integrity, stressing the importance of 12-step recovery, fellowship, and service. In March of 2012 she moved The North Star to its current location where she now can provide safe and comfortable housing for 15 women. In the fall of 2012 Grace began another chapter in her life by enrolling in a Yoga Teacher training program and earned her RYT-200 in the spring of 2013. At about the same time she met the love of her life and they were married two years later. Though she loved her life in Kerrville, Grace and her husband were called to move to Port Aransas, TX to be close to family. Her former house manager, Laura Godwin, had just moved back to Kerrville and it was a perfect fit for Laura and Grace to partner together to ensure the future of The North Star.
Grace now focuses on business development for The North Star while Laura handles the day to day operations of the house. Both women work closely together to make sure The North Star is a safe and effective place for women to recover from addiction.
